Dietz Under Contract With Habs

Marc Bergevin, announced Sunday the signing of defenseman Darren Dietz for a period of three years (2013-2014 to 2015-2016). As stated club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In 72 games this season with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL), Dietz has amassed 58 points (24 goals, 34 assists). It ranks first among the defenders of the league in goals, as well as the rear third of the WHL in points. He served 100 minutes of penalty and this differential +9.

Dietz, aged 19, received 131 points (48 goals, 83 assists) in 220 games since his debut with junior Saskatoon, 2009-2010. Defender 6’01” and 195 lbs has accumulated 288 minutes of penalty and has a differential of +29.

Originally from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Dietz was selected in the fifth round by the Canadiens, 138th overall in the NHL draft in 2011. He took part in his first training camp with the Canadiens in September 2011.
